Eliminate the habit of procrastination

As those of you who have listened to my podcast in the past know, I always discuss topics that apply to my own self improvement journey. Well, procrastination is something I have decided to eliminate from my life for good.

That’s right! And let me say that where there's a will, there's a way.

Do YOU want to eliminate procrastinating on your dreams and goals too?

Maybe you’re like me. I was always filled with great ideas but many times I got stuck and procrastinated on taking action. So this year I have decided to give procrastination a kick in the booty and eradicate it. No more procrastination! I’ve decided to take massive action and F@#$ it, just do it.

Since I’ve decided to kick this bad habit to the curb I have been playing close attention to people who are already good at beating the procrastination pattern. I’ve started implementing their advice and it’s helped me gain the momentum I’ve been craving.

So today I’m sharing what is helping me get unstuck and finally dedicate my time intentionally and focus on what I want to manifest in my life.

Don't procrastinate

Start before your ready

The first piece of advice I can give you if you really want stop procrastinating is to start before your ready.

Whatever it is you want to do, whether it's working out to lose weight, starting a family or starting a new business, start before your ready. If you wait for all your ducks to line up in a row, you'll likely never feel truly prepared and never actually take action.

Starting before your ready doesn't imply taking a stupid risk or being sloppy but it does mean you'll relinquish waiting for the “perfect time” or the “perfect place” to start.

Waiting for the “perfect time” and the “perfect place” is only an excuse you're using to procrastinate.

The right time to start is now. Create YOUR perfect timing by simply taking action.

Just take a small step towards your desired goals daily. Remember, it's a marathon, not a sprint. You'll be amazed by the momentum small steps create.

A year from now what will you wish you had done today? Take that leap of faith and start now. You'll thank yourself for it later.

All the perfecting and tweaking will happen naturally along the way. Will you make mistakes? Absofreakinglutely! But who cares… at least you're in the arena baby.

Commit and schedule to stop procrastination

Schedule and Commit

My second tip on beating the procrastination game is to schedule and commit to your goals.

I recently finished one of Tony Robbins's audio courses on time management called Time of Your Life. In it he says: “If you talk about it, it's a dreamif you envision it, it's possible, but if you schedule it, it's real.”

This is so true! Scheduling something on your calendar is the first step towards completing that task. You are priming your mind and mentally preparing for the task at hand.

Plus, it's a lot harder to talk yourself out of something previously scheduled, particularly when you're being held accountable by someone or when there's a financial implication.

For example, if you want to start working out, schedule the workout with a friend of yours on a particular day and time. You'll be less likely to cancel on your friend. Or better yet, schedule your workouts with a personal trainer if possible.

Act on impulse and say goodbye to procrastination

Act on impulse and say goodbye to procrastination

Normally I wouldn't advise on acting on impulse, but when it comes to procrastination then I say by all means.

Start doing the work as soon as desire kicks in, as soon as you feel the urge to do that thing you desire.

Motivation, when it shows up for a task you've been delaying, is a gift. So, if you feel inspiration approaching, hop on the train.

This advice helped me train for a half marathon last year. Normally, I didn't feel inspired to hit the treadmill but once in while I’d get a window of desire. And I'd think to myself: “Right now would be a good time to run.” I realized that when I got that desire I needed to jump and act on impulse. If I let that window of opportunity pass me by, chances were I wouldn’t get that desire again that day.

So, whenever my schedule allowed it, I switched things around. I would put my gym clothes on immediately and hop on the treadmill before I even had a chance to talk myself out of it.

Therefore, whatever it is that you want to do that is hard for you to start, pay attention to your urges. If you get that urge to run or write or whatever it is you want to start, do it right away. Don't let the window of opportunity pass you by.

Stop procrastinating... do it now

Stop the analyzing

Too much analysis causes paralysis. My life coach, Jose Antonio Valencia, shared this awesome piece of advice with me and it's been a TOTAL game changer.

I used to be the queen of analysis! Which meant I was procrastinating because I was stuck in paralysis.

Putting a stop to over thinking goes hand in hand with the “start before you’re ready” recommendation.

Perfectionists beware. When you stay in your head, you're dead.

beat procrastination

F@#$ it, Just do it!

My last tip is to F@#$ it and just do it. What I mean is: stop worrying about whether you'll fail or whether other people will criticize you for it.

Life is too short to procrastinate. You were put on this earth for greatness, mamacita. I definitely don't want to die with my music still inside me. So F@#$ it, just do it!

I say it's better to die trying then to never attempt going after your dreams.

Surrender! Drop all the baggage weighing you down and chase those aspirations like a cheetah.

So, there you have it mamacita: start before you're ready, schedule and commit, act on impulse, stop the analyzing and for goodness sakes F@#$ it and just do it!

If you liked this episode don't forget to share. I know you know some other procrastination queens. Lol.
